Helping you get back to living life as normal as possible

Transformational Therapy

Serving children, adolescents, and adults in Georgia

Start Feeling Resilient Again.

Your natural response to trauma is to distract, avoid, and not feel all so that you can get by. The thought of feeling the fear, anger, sadness, guilt and shame associated with unforeseen circumstances is overwhelming. You may not even trust yourself to follow through on your existing day-to-day duties if you allow yourself to emotionally go there.

You are worthy of support. You are deserving of a space to make sense of your experiences and find acceptance for your emotions and responses. You are capable of developing strategies to navigate the challenges you are facing.

I will help you to shift your thinking patterns so you can do more than just get by, but back to the life you saw for yourself.

Hi, I’m Marsia

Marsia Brown, licensed trauma therapist for children and families in Georgia

I am your go to therapist for resolving whatever has happened in your life and making sense of the path forward.

I work with individuals and families who are overwhelmed with life not going how they envisioned it. Whether it was one big event or a series of small ones, changes like these often leave the clients I work with experiencing:

  • Anxiety and unsure of what will happen next

  • Overwhelm and out of “ideal” options

  • Feelings of inadequacy and doubting their ability to cope with challenges

  • Urges to engage in unhelpful coping mechanisms

  • A sense of being alone

When I work with you, it will be within a positive, non-judgmental environment where you will be seen, heard and feel safe to YOU. I will empower you to build upon your strengths, enhance your coping skills, improve relationships, and ultimately work to create the life you desire.

You are capable of overcoming what has happened to you.

Therapy for Children & Adolescents

As a parent reading this, you may feel concerned, scared and confused about how to help your child(ren) navigate the circumstances impacting your family. I want to ensure you that you and your family can get through this.

A difficult part in understanding how your child is handling difficult transitions is that they have not fully learned how to cope and express their emotions.

Signs that I may be a good match for your child or teen include:

  • They seem irritable and angry

  • They exhibit feelings of sadness or tearfulness

  • They don’t display as much interest in the things they used to

  • There are differences in their eating or sleeping habits

  • They appear stressed, worrisome or anxious

  • They are displaying signs of ADHD

Our Overall Approach

I strongly believe that there is a connection between one's thoughts about what has happened to them, and in turn, their feelings as a result.

This is why I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT), and Person Centered approaches.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

CBT is a highly effective therapeutic approach that focuses on identifying and challenging negative thought patterns and behaviors. In the face of unexpected life changes, Our work will center on:

  • Recognizing and reframing unhelpful beliefs and thought patterns related to the change(s) you’ve experienced.

  • Developing practical coping strategies to manage difficult emotions and adapt to your new circumstances.

  • Learning problem-solving skills to address challenges and setbacks with confidence.

  • Fostering resilience by building a toolkit of self-care practices and positive coping mechanisms.

Trauma-Focused CBT

TF-CBT is specifically tailored to help individuals who have experienced trauma, including unexpected life changes that may be traumatic in nature. We will use this approach to integrate cognitive behavioral techniques with trauma-specific interventions to:

  • Provide a safe and supportive environment for processing traumatic experiences and associated emotions.

  • Address symptoms of trauma such as intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, and hypervigilance.

  • Teach relaxation and grounding techniques to manage anxiety and distress.

  • Promote healing and resilience by fostering a sense of empowerment and control over your life.

Person Centered Therapy

Person-Centered Therapy, developed by Carl Rogers, emphasizes the importance of the therapeutic relationship and the inherent capacity for growth and self-actualization within each individual. When we use this approach in the context of unexpected your life changes, we will:

  • Provide a non-judgmental and empathetic space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

  • Encourage self-exploration and self-awareness, empowering you to tap into your own inner wisdom and resources.

  • Facilitate personal growth and self-acceptance by fostering a deeper understanding and acceptance of yourself.

  • Support you in making meaningful changes aligned with your values and goals, promoting a sense of authenticity and fulfillment.
